Mr. Stephen Barone became the Strategic Security Policy Analyst for the Peacekeeping and Stability Operations Institute (PKSOI) in August 2009. Prior to his assignment with PKSOI, Mr. Barone commanded Special Operations Forces at the detachment, troop, and squadron level. He has had various staff assignments to include lead Joint Planner at the Joint Special Operations Command (JSOC) and Policy and Forces Branch Chief of HQDA G3 Special Operations Division, Pentagon. He has completed tours with 2nd Battalion, 87th Infantry in Schofield Barracks, HI that included a peacekeeping deployment with the Multinational Force & Observers (MFO) in Sinai, Egypt; 2nd Battalion, 5th Special Forces Group (Airborne); and approximately 7 years in 1st Special Forces Operational Detachment – DELTA, culminating as squadron commander during Operation IRAQI FREEDOM. Mr. Barone’s military education is consistent with that of a career Special Forces officer and includes a Masters of Military Art and Science from the Air Command and Staff College, Maxwell Air Force Base, Montgomery, Alabama; a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from Bloomsburg University, Bloomsburg, PA; and he completed a Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Fellowship (Seminar XXI) in International Relations and National Security.
